• Partner Spotlight: Cavalier Rescue of Florida

Starting with our logo and looking into our website and Instagram, it's pretty clear that we love our Cavaliers at The Southern Pup! Some may even say we are obsessed. With our two beloved shop pups Nancy Reagan and Eliza Doolittle, and our regular foster pups serving as our inspiration and our stylish preppy models, we are incredibly passionate about rescue and our beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed.

We launched our "Friends of The Southern Pup" foundation this Fall to join with an animal rescue partner each month to support their work across the Southeast. We are so excited to announce that we are partnering with our friends at Cavalier Rescue of Florida to donate 10% of all sales from Black Friday through December 31st to support their life saving work. Shop for a stylish new collar or bow tie accessory for your pup across our and help give back to pets in need this holiday season.

Cavalier Rescue of Florida is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3, foster-based rescue in Florida. They are dedicated to rescuing and rehoming Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in loving, pre-screened homes. They are a mighty team of volunteers with no paid staff members who lovingly provide for the needs of their dogs through donations, fundraisers and business sponsorships. They foster all dogs in Florida, but are active in rescuing and placing dogs out of state as well.

This year they have rescued/rehomed 68 dogs and counting, including 10 in the month of November alone. They accept Cavaliers no matter their age or health. Every cavalier that they rescue is taken to a veterinarian for a complete physical and followed up with specialists, if necessary. If their dogs need to see an ophthalmologist or cardiologist, they don't hesitate to take them. Some of their rescues require extensive medical care like Clancy pictured above, such as surgeries and chemotherapy, but they won't stop until their medical needs are met to live a happy, healthy life. Periodically, dogs are taken into rescue with terminal illnesses. When this happens, they provide them with loving hospice care-- ensuring that they are loved and cared for until their last day.

They accept Cavaliers primarily from owner surrenders, shelters and puppy mills and this year alone they have taken in Cavaliers from these circumstances:

    • 24 came from the puppy mills/disreputable breeders.
    • 5 were rescued from shelters
    • 8 were relinquished to CRF due to the death of their owner
    • 31 were surrendered by their owner

Their goal is to find every dog the best possible home, based on the dog’s needs. They will take care of the Cavalier in foster care, no matter how long it takes to locate their perfect forever home. They conduct reference checks and home visits for all potential adopters. Most importantly, they make a lifelong commitment to the dog and adopting family. Even after adoption, they are here to support the new family and will accept the Cavalier back into rescue at any time, if necessary.

We look forward to sharing more of their story and introducing you to their adoptable pups throughout the month so be sure to follow along on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Click here to donate directly to support their life saving work, and shop all month long to help us help more Cavaliers!
